Editor: Could you tell us a bit about yourself and how you entered the music industry?
Chhavi: I was never a singer, rather I didn’t know if I was. I learned guitar from my brother as I was totally inspired by him. So I learned guitar and then without giving any thought, I uploaded my first cover ‘’Ishq Bulava” on Youtube. It became a hit, I started practicing more and more and here I am becoming better each day.
Editor: Tell us about your achievements as a musician?
Chhavi: These songs have been my achievement:
1. Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi cover was played on 104.8 FM.
2. Sakhiyan went viral garnering 750k views.
3. Channa Mereya has 500k views.
4. Played with my band at Jaipur Literature Festival.
Editor: Tell us about your songs which have been released until date. Is there a song you feel most proud of?
Chhavi: Well, my song is still under process…This is the first song that I wrote and will be uploading soon.
Editor: If you weren’t a singer/musician, what would you be doing right now?
Chhavi: I would’ve been an athlete. I was a national level player during school time.
Editor: Where did you get that confidence to perform on stage?
Chhavi: To be honest, I still have stage fear but once I’m on stage and I look at people enjoying, confidence comes naturally.
Editor: Where do you see five years from now?
Chhavi: Hopefully as a playback singer in Bollywood.
Editor: What would you like people to take away from your music?
Chhavi: I believe it is very true as you listen to a songwriter or read an author you take away things from their art which you don’t even realize. It gets manifested in your art if you are an artist and you get inspired by it. I have experienced it myself as I have learned from others and also picked up a skill or way of doing things from many artists. I would want to do the same for anyone who get inspired and create more beautiful art or at the end of the day making someone just a little happy listening to my tunes.
Editor: Which Artists Instagram Stories do you follow and why?
Chhavi: I follow Adnan Sami, Papon and Arijit Singh.. these are the voices to die for.
Editor: Is there any particular advice you would give to up-and-coming vocalists?
Chhavi: Just keep practicing. Don’t get demoralized by minor setbacks or people who don’t believe in you. Keep practicing and you’ll achieve whatever you want to.
Editor: Who were your inspirations growing up?
Chhavi: Kishore Kumar. I use to listen to him day and night…I have an inclination towards retro Bollywood.
Editor: Are you into songwriting? What are your main impulses to write about music?
Chhavi: Yes I totally am. I get inspired by things going on around me and try and express my feelings through a song. Whenever I feel down or happy, or any kind of strong emotion, I try to pen it down.
Editor: What is your opinion about One Song? Do you think it’s a valuable platform for the career growth of musicians like you?
Chhavi: Yes of course. I would give credit to One Song for promoting artists like me and I think they are doing a great job by giving them viewership as upcoming artists totally need that.
